Leaders in Westminster envisioned a transit station that would not only be functionally excellent, but would also help build and beautify the community. The partners behind Westminster Station, a FasTracks commuter rail station currently under construction, designed it to offer residents of surrounding neighborhoods more than a stop along their commute. The project represents a commitment to community-centered design and one example of the city’s vision for future development coming to fruition.

According to Westminster Mayor Herb Atchison, “the City of Westminster has collaborated with the Regional Transportation District (RTD), Adams County, Urban Drainage and Flood Control District, and DRCOG for over eight years to ensure the rail station supports the revitalization of the surrounding neighborhood. To implement the city’s vision, multiple projects are under construction at the site include not only a parking garage, a plaza, a regional park, but a water quality and drainage system along Little Dry Creek.”

Westminster Station will be located at approximately 69th Avenue and Grove Street in south Westminster. The travel time between Westminster Station and Denver Union Station is expected to be approximately 11 minutes. RTD plans to open the station this summer.

DRCOG’s Metro Vision awards are presented to individuals and programs who contribute significant efforts to the Denver region and its communities, and to DRCOG’s programs and activities. The regional council has been honoring outstanding achievements for more than 30 years.
