City's Economic Development Office recognized as one of the best

International Economic Development Council Awards the City of Westminster a Silver Excellence in Economic Development Award for 2014

The City of Westminster received a Silver Excellence in Economic Development Award for 2014 in the category of Business Retention and Expansion - Program of Three Years or More - for communities with populations of 25,000 - 200,000 from the International Economic Development Council.
The honor was presented at an awards ceremony on Monday, Oct. 20, during the IEDC Annual Conference, which was held in Fort Worth, Texas.
“Retaining existing businesses and helping them grow has been part of the City of Westminster’s economic development focus since the early 1990s. Our success comes from engaging staff throughout the city organization in helping us keep businesses happy,” said Susan Grafton, Westminster Economic Development director.
Grafton added that a new program that partners with the city’s Fire Department to help with personal business visits has also been key to the success of the business services program.
"Economic development efforts have long been a keystone in the quest to bolster the economy and improve quality of life in every locality across the country," said Bill Sproull, IEDC chair. "As the nation continues to tackle challenges in the midst of global uncertainty, these efforts have taken on an even greater significance. With this award, we laud organizations like the City of Westminster for leading the charge."
IEDC's Excellence in Economic Development Awards recognize the world’s best economic development programs and partnerships, marketing materials and the year’s most influential leaders. These awards honor organizations and individuals for their efforts in creating positive change in urban, suburban and rural communities.
